Ecopista do Vouga: Viseu ➔ São Pedro do Sul

The section of the Vouga Greenway between Viseu and São Pedro do Sul follows the former railway line through a landscape that gradually changes as it leaves the city behind. The route passes former stations and halts of the Vouga Railway, preserving throughout the journey the memory of the railway infrastructure on which the greenway was built.

After leaving Viseu, the landscape becomes increasingly rural and wooded, passing through the area of Bodiosa and its parish church. Oak and pine woodland accompany several sections of the route, alternating with agricultural areas and small settlements that reflect the traditional occupation of this territory. The succession of these environments gives this section considerable landscape diversity.

As it approaches São Pedro do Sul, the route enters a landscape dominated by the Vouga valley. The Ponte do Pego is one of the most distinctive points of this section, bringing the route into direct contact with the river and the rock formations known as giant's kettles. Further on, the São Pedro do Sul Railway Bridge and the former railway station mark the arrival at the town, in a setting where railway heritage and the riverside landscape meet.

At 27.7 km, this section brings together different expressions of the territory between Viseu and São Pedro do Sul, from the wooded and rural areas around Viseu to the Vouga valley, with the former railway line providing a constant link between them.
