GR28 - Por Montes e Vales de Arouca

85 km exploring mountains, rivers, and mountain villages

This long-distance path invites you to discover the territory of Arouca in all its diversity. Over 85 kilometres, the trail crosses the Arouca valley, the Serra da Freita, and the valleys of the Paiva and Paivô rivers, revealing breathtaking landscapes at every ridge. The route connects mountain villages and is marked by points of interest ranging from ancient monuments such as the Mamoa da Portela da Anta to important built heritage like the Arouca Monastery and the Museum of Sacred Art. It also passes through unique sites such as the House of the Parideiras Stones and the Trilobite Museum, not forgetting the famous Paiva Walkways. There is also room for natural viewpoints, such as the Arouca Weather Radar, and small discoveries like the Eduardo Noronha Dias Distillery, where the renowned Pinguça is produced. Chapels, bridges, rivers, and leisure areas complete a route designed for those who seek nature as well as those who appreciate history and culture.
