GR45 - Grande Rota do Vale do Côa

The Côa Valley Long-distance Path (GR45) is a hiking trail that crosses the Côa River Valley, a region rich in history, culture, and breathtaking natural landscapes. Starting at the source of the Côa River in Fóios, Sabugal municipality, the GR45 extends to the Côa Museum, located in Vila Nova de Foz Côa. In total, the GR45 covers approximately 200 km over 11 stages, passing through various municipalities in the Guarda district, including Sabugal, Almeida, Pinhel, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Fornos de Algodres, and Vila Nova de Foz Côa. Each stage has an average distance ranging from 13 to 25 km, allowing hikers to complete the entire route in 11 days. Along the way, hikers have the opportunity to explore a variety of natural landscapes and picturesque villages in the municipalities it crosses. The difficulty level of the stages varies between level 2 (easy) and level 5 (very difficult). On average, considering the entire route, the GR45 is considered a level 4 (difficult) long-distance path.
