Stage 6 of the GR57 connects the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Vagos to the São Roque Canal, crossing different environments between Vagos, Ílhavo and Aveiro, from the Boco River and Vista Alegre's industrial heritage to the lagoon landscape of the Ria de Aveiro.
Along the route, the trail passes through the surroundings of the Vista Alegre factory and its former workers' neighbourhood, crosses Ílhavo and continues alongside different areas of the University of Aveiro. At Lago do Paraíso, the proximity to the lagoon also offers the possibility of observing flamingos in the wild.
In the final section, salt takes centre stage as the route approaches the Aveiro salt pans and the Marinha da Troncalhada Ecomuseum, where it is possible to learn more about salt production and its importance in the landscape of the Ria de Aveiro.
The Vista Alegre factory was founded in 1824 and gave rise to a private workers' neighbourhood where workers and artists connected to the factory community lived and worked.
