Passadiços da Barrinha de Esmoriz
An accessible trail by the lagoon and boardwalks of Barrinha de Esmoriz, set in unspoiled coastal nature
The Barrinha de Esmoriz Boardwalks takes place alongside the Barrinha de Esmoriz, also known as Lagoa de Paramos, a coastal wetland located between the municipalities of Ovar and Espinho. The route follows wooden boardwalks installed along the lagoon, crossing dune areas, marshlands and habitats associated with the lagoon ecosystem.
Along the trail it is possible to observe a great diversity of fauna and flora, with emphasis on several species of aquatic and migratory birds that use the lagoon as a feeding, shelter and nesting area. The surrounding vegetation includes reed beds, plants adapted to humid environments and species characteristic of the coastal dune system.
Barrinha de Esmoriz is part of the Natura 2000 Network and is considered one of the most important natural areas on the northern Portuguese coastline. The trail has a low physical difficulty level and very little elevation gain, making it suitable for nature observation walks and contact with the lagoon and Atlantic landscape.
