Percurso Ribeirinho de Loures

Along boardwalks and the Tagus estuary marshes

The Loures Riverside Trail (Percurso Ribeirinho de Loures) stands as a premier vantage point over the Tagus Estuary. Primarily built on wooden boardwalks, this path offers a total immersion in the riverside landscape, seamlessly connecting the banks of Loures to Lisbon and Vila Franca de Xira through a gentle, eco-integrated route.

Starting Points and Flexibility

Versatility is one of the main features of this linear trail. The walk can begin in Santa Iria de Azóia, heading south with the Vasco da Gama Bridge marking the horizon, or from the Trancão River Cyclopedestrian Bridge. The latter is the structure that connects Lisbon to Loures, serving as a natural gateway for those arriving from the Parque das Nações area.

The Trail Experience

Throughout the journey, walkers are accompanied by the serenity of the "Sea of Straw" (Mar da Palha). The scenery is dominated by the biodiversity of the salt marshes, where the waters of the Trancão merge with the Tagus. It is a privileged spot for birdwatching, featuring informative panels that help identify the species inhabiting this sensitive ecosystem.

The infrastructure was designed to ensure comfort without compromising nature: the elevated boardwalks protect the muddy terrain, while rest areas with wooden covers provide shelter and shade. At the end of the day, integrated photovoltaic lighting allows for an extended experience in a peaceful and safe environment.

Sapatrilhas Tips
