PR1 ADL - Rota do Giro
Along the water channels and landscapes of Alandroal
The PR1 ADL - Giro Route takes place in the surroundings of the town of Alandroal, combining a rural setting, historical heritage and the typical landscape of the Alentejo.
The trail begins near the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Consolação, a 16th-century building associated with Diogo Lopes de Sequeira, a notable historical figure who is buried there. Along the route, the landscape is shaped by the Alentejo countryside and, in spring, by extensive fields of wildflowers.
One of the most distinctive elements of this trail is the “giros”, traditional structures used to channel water from springs to former orchards and vegetable gardens. These give the trail its name and reflect historical water management practices.
Closer to the town, the route passes several points of interest, including the Chapel of São Pedro, the Castle of Alandroal, the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and the pillory, as well as other elements of local heritage.
This is a trail that highlights the connection between the rural landscape and the historical heritage of Alandroal, in a calm and characteristic Alentejo setting.
