PR1 AGN - Caminho do Xisto da Benfeita - A Frescura das Cascatas

The PR1 AGN - Benfeita Schist Trail - The Freshness of the Waterfalls is a circular trail starting and ending in the Schist Village of Benfeita, in the municipality of Arganil. The route follows agricultural paths, irrigation channels and riverside areas, crossing a landscape marked by the constant presence of water and the traditional use of the fields. Along the trail, steep slopes and watercourses give rise to several waterfalls, in a cool setting enclosed by mountain slopes. After the Sardal area, the trail descends towards Fraga da Pena, one of the best-known waterfalls in the Serra do Açor, before continuing to Pardieiros along narrow but well-defined paths. The return to Benfeita follows the Ribeira da Mata, passing through areas where agriculture and the use of the fields remain part of the region's rural landscape.
