PR1 GDM - Linha de Midões e os Moinhos de Jancido

Start / End: Car park by the Foz do Sousa Health Care Centre The PR1 GDM - Midões Line and Jancido's Mills, with an extension of about 5 km, invite you to explore a charming setting in the municipality of Gondomar, in the Porto district. Classified as easy (level 2), this linear trail offers a walk of approximately 2 hours, ideal to enjoy at any time of the year. The trail starts and ends at the parking lot near the Foz do Sousa Health Center. Through this route, you can follow the footsteps of the old Midões railway line, which for years connected the coal mines of Midões with the antimony and gold mines of Montalto. This historic line gave rise to this magnificent trail, providing a unique connection to the region's industrial past. One of the central attractions of this route is the Jancido Mills, witnesses to a past rich in milling activities. These mills, with over 200 years of history, were essential elements in the transformation of corn and other cereals into flour. Until the 1970s, they played a vital role in the local community. The perseverance and dedication of a group of local volunteers, the "Amigos dos Moinhos de Jancido," brought these mills back to life from ruins. Today, these restored mills are a vivid representation of the region's historical and social heritage. The PR1 GDM is a unique opportunity to explore this industrial and cultural legacy while enjoying the natural beauty of the municipality of Gondomar. During the trail, some caution is advised, especially in periods of precipitation, due to potentially slippery or flooded terrain.
