PR1 MDC - Corredor Verde de Vale de Prados

Along the connection between Macedo de Cavaleiros and Azibo

The PR1 MDC - Vale de Prados Green Corridor is a circular trail starting and ending in the centre of Macedo de Cavaleiros, near Casa Falcão, where the Tourism and Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark information point is located. The route heads towards Vale de Prados, linking the town to the surrounding rural, agricultural and natural areas. In Vale de Prados, the Church of São Jerónimo and the pillory, classified as a property of public interest, stand out. From here, the trail approaches the Protected Landscape of the Azibo Reservoir and the Morais Site of Community Importance, part of the Natura 2000 Network. The Morais site has significant geological, botanical and faunal interest, standing out for including one of the largest continuous serpentinite units in Portugal and for being an important area for the Iberian wolf. Along the route, chestnut groves, olive groves, cultivated fields and areas associated with the protected landscape can be found. The Azibo Reservoir, part of the Sabor River basin, is another notable element of the route, due to its environmental quality, surrounding landscape and river beaches. The return to Macedo de Cavaleiros passes once again through Vale de Prados, completing a walk that combines urban heritage, rural character, geology and natural values.
