PR1 - Percurso da Lagoa

A walk through the habitats of a protected wetland

The PR1 - Lagoon Trail (Percurso da Lagoa) takes place in the Bertiandos and São Pedro d’Arcos Lagoons Protected Area, starting at the Environmental Interpretation Centre and allowing visitors to discover a wetland area of high natural value and the surrounding landscape of São Pedro d’Arcos Lagoon.

The route follows the lagoon along wooden walkways and paths by the water, passing observation points that allow visitors to interpret the different habitats found in this protected area.

The landscape is marked by water surfaces, riparian vegetation, pasture areas and surrounding woodland. The natural conditions of the lagoon provide shelter and feeding areas for several wetland species, including various aquatic birds.

Along the route it is also possible to observe natural pastures bordered by hedges of oak, alder and willow trees, a traditional agricultural landscape known as bocage, characteristic of this region.

With a strong environmental interpretation component, this route highlights the importance of wetlands in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem balance.
