Between the valleys of the Vouga and Zela rivers, this trail invites you to discover Vouzela through a harmonious blend of historical heritage, natural landscapes and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.
The trail starts in the town centre and initially follows the Zela river, passing the medieval bridge before climbing to the former Vouga railway line. Now converted into a walking path and integrated into the Vouga Greenway (Viseu District), this section crosses oak woodlands and recalls the days when the train connected Espinho to Viseu, offering a pleasant walk between nature and railway heritage.
Along the way, several points of interest appear, including the preserved locomotive near the railway bridge, the Chapel of Santo Antão, and a group of anthropomorphic rock-cut tombs.
The most demanding part of the trail is the climb to the Monte de Nossa Senhora do Castelo. At the top stands the sanctuary that gives the trail its name, surrounded by an open terrace and a natural viewpoint with excellent views over Vouzela and the surrounding valleys. This is also a place rich in history, with an ancient fortress believed to have once stood.
The return to Vouzela is mostly downhill, ending near the remarkable Parish Church of Vouzela, one of the most important landmarks in the town.
