PR14 - Trilho do Sobreiral da Ermida
The PR14 - Sobreiral da Ermida Trail is a circular route starting in the village of Ermida, in Gerês. The trail develops through a mountain area marked by agro-pastoral life, traditional architecture and wide views over the Gerês mountain ranges and the surrounding rural landscape.
Along the route, the Arado Bridge stands out, built in 1936, near the Arado Waterfall. The trail also passes by traditional livestock shelters, such as Malhadoura, Portos and Cortes, associated with the practice of vezeira, in which cattle were driven to the higher mountain areas for several days or weeks.
The trail is named after the Sobreiral da Ermida, an extensive cork oak woodland covering around 200 hectares, located on a south-facing slope between the Arado River and Fafião, approximately between 290 and 760 metres in altitude. The presence of this cork oak woodland in a mountain landscape is one of the most distinctive natural features of the route.
From the same starting point, there is also a shorter alternative route of around 6 km, passing by the Fraga do Justo Viewpoint, the Rajada Waterfall and the Vela Viewpoint.
