PR2 ADL - Pedra Alçada

The PR2 ADL - Pedra Alçada offers a journey into the prehistoric past of the municipality of Alandroal, highlighting one of the most impressive megalithic features in the region. Along the trail, several elements of rural heritage can be found, reflecting traditional ways of life, such as old charcoal production kilns associated with the use of holm oak and cork oak. The landscape is defined by the montado, where these species dominate, creating a typical Alentejo setting. The presence of the Palha stream adds freshness to the route, with green banks and well-developed riparian vegetation. Along the way, there are also interesting granite outcrops, whose unique shapes have inspired different names over time. The highlight of the trail is Pedra Alçada, an impressive granite formation made up of two large overlapping rocks, approximately 10 metres high and 6 metres in diameter, standing out in the landscape due to its imposing presence. This is a trail that combines natural, geological and cultural heritage, offering an experience connected to the earliest history of the territory.
