PR2 AGD - Trilho das Levadas

Circular trail along levadas, weirs, and riparian biodiversity

The PR2 AGD - Levada Trail (Trilho das Levadas) follows the surroundings of the Marnel River, a tributary of the Vouga River, through a landscape marked by water, forest areas and agricultural fields.

Along the route, the highlights are the dams and levadas built in the past to channel water to the mills, elements that reflect the traditional use of water and the importance of agriculture in the region.

The trail crosses areas of riparian vegetation, where the constant presence of the river creates different natural habitats. Willows, alders, bay trees and ferns are part of this landscape, which supports a diversity of wildlife associated with watercourses.

Between rural and forest areas, the route allows visitors to discover old mill structures, some of them in ruins, as well as elements of local heritage. The proximity to the Marnel River and its levadas is the central feature of this trail.

Near Boiça Leisure Park is also the River Laboratory, dedicated to demonstrating river restoration techniques based on natural solutions.
