The PR2 FAL - Water Route (Rota da Água) starts at Largo da Praça, in Odivelas, and follows the rural surroundings of the village, through a landscape marked by agricultural fields, olive groves, montado and the presence of water associated with the Ribeira de Odivelas and the dam.
The route crosses agricultural areas that benefit from the irrigation capacity of the Odivelas and Alqueva reservoirs, with crops such as orange groves, almond orchards, olive groves and areas used for forage production and extensive grazing.
As it approaches the Odivelas Dam and the Ribeira de Odivelas, the route highlights the importance of water in this territory, both for supply and irrigation and for the conservation of riparian galleries and habitats associated with watercourses.
The landscape also includes cork oak and holm oak montado, a characteristic ecosystem of the Alentejo, and returns to the village of Odivelas, where the Church of Santo Estêvão, the main church of Odivelas, stands out. The craft tradition of the Odivelas baskets, made from rushes that grow in the flooded areas of the stream and its surroundings, completes the connection between the route and local identity.
The route includes a crossing of National Road 2, so extra care is needed at that point.
