PR2 GRD - Rota da Cabeça Alta

Through the highest point of the municipality, rye fields, the Mondego Valley and views over the Serra da Estrela

The PR2 GRD - Cabeça Alta Route is a circular trail in the municipality of Guarda, set mainly in a rural and natural environment. Over around 19 km, the route crosses agricultural fields, mountain areas and landscapes associated with the Mondego River valley.

The trail allows walkers to observe some of the elements that characterise this area of Serra da Estrela, from rye fields and small rural areas to high points with broad views over the surrounding territory. Among the main highlights is Cabeça Alta, the highest point in the municipality of Guarda, at around 1287 m of altitude.

The route passes through Videmonte and crosses areas of natural and cultural interest, including places close to the Central Massif of Serra da Estrela and the Souto da Caravela Rock-cut Necropolis. Due to its length and duration, it is a trail that requires suitable physical preparation, despite following rural paths and areas of accessible progression.

In the final part, the route returns to the starting point, offering a broad reading of the mountain and agricultural landscape of this area of the municipality of Guarda, between natural heritage, archaeological remains and elements of traditional architecture.
