The Zêzere Route crosses the surroundings of Pedrógão Pequeno along old paths, through pine woodland and the landscape of the Zêzere valley. The former Roman road is one of the first distinctive features of the route, leading into an area where the proximity of the river and reservoir becomes increasingly prominent.
Near the Zêzere, the route follows the former irrigation channel and passes through a tunnel cut into the hillside before continuing towards Moinho das Freiras, beside the Bouçã reservoir. In this section, the combination of water, vegetation and granite terrain creates one of the route's most characteristic landscapes.
From the valley, the trail climbs towards Painho, crossing pine woodland and rural areas. Fonte das Aveleiras marks another point along the route before the return to Pedrógão Pequeno, completing a circuit that alternates between the riverside landscape of the Zêzere, woodland and historic paths.
Along the route, the proximity of the Ponte Filipina also provides access to one of the main heritage features of the Cabril valley, while the pillory and historic centre of Pedrógão Pequeno add an architectural and historical dimension to the trail.
