PR2 VGS - Trilhos de São Martinho
The PR2 VGS - São Martinho Trails is a circular route of around 19 km, located in the parish of Ouca, in the municipality of Vagos. The route mainly follows dirt forest and agricultural tracks, passing through the places of Carregosa, Tabuaço and Rio Tinto.
Starting at Parque da Fonte de Ouca, the trail heads towards Carregosa, where several local elements can be found, including an old fountain, the church, a public washhouse and a shrine dedicated to Dr. José Gregório Hernández. From here, it continues through rural and forest areas, passing the sparkling wine vineyards of Quinta da Pedreira before heading towards Tabuaço.
The route then crosses agricultural areas and woodland patches towards Rio Tinto, maintaining a strong connection to the rural paths of the parish. There is an option to shorten the walk through a signposted shortcut, useful for those who do not want to complete the full route.
On the return to Ouca, it is possible to make a detour to the geodetic marker that marks the highest point in the municipality of Vagos, at 68 metres of altitude. The final section approaches Parque das Azenhas, where old structures linked to cereal milling can be found.
Overall, this is a long rural and forest trail, suitable for those looking for an extended walk along agricultural paths and through the small localities of the parish of Ouca.
