PR3 FZZ - Trilho da Pombeira

Through rural landscapes with views over the Castelo de Bode Reservoir

The Pombeira Trail crosses a landscape shaped by the presence of the Castelo do Bode reservoir and the rural character of the surrounding area. Between woodland paths and agricultural areas, the route offers different views over the reservoir and the settlements of Pombeira, Zaboeira and Alcamim.

The relationship between local communities and their surroundings is reflected in several features along the route. The chapels of São João Batista and Santo António bear witness to the religious heritage of the settlements, while the Regato Concelho Watermill and the Cabrieira stream recall traditional ways of using water.

The landscape combines areas of maritime pine, cork oak, olive, strawberry tree and other species characteristic of the region with diverse geological formations and materials, including limestone, sandstone, quartzite, pebbles and schist. Near the water, the variety of habitats supports a range of bird species and other wildlife associated with woodland and aquatic environments.

The route also passes through areas that retain traces of the history and settlement of this region, including the Castro site, São Pedro de Castro and its chapel. Between woodland, rural areas, and the reservoir shores, the trail offers a varied perspective on the landscape of Ferreira do Zêzere.
