The PR3 ETR - Bocage Trail takes place in the Ribeiro de Canelas area, in the municipality of Estarreja, following this watercourse associated with the Ria de Aveiro. With approximately 3.6 km in length and a “U”-shaped layout, it is a short trail that allows visitors to discover a rural landscape marked by the presence of water and the proximity to the region's wetland habitats.
The main defining feature of the route is the bocage, an agricultural mosaic made up of small fields separated by living hedgerows, ditches and water channels. This landscape results from the relationship between traditional farming activity and the need to manage water levels in an area influenced by the ria.
Along the trail, it is possible to observe agricultural areas, riverside vegetation and different habitats associated with Ribeiro de Canelas. The walk offers a simple and direct introduction to the rural landscape of Estarreja, where water, fields, and living hedgerows shape the territory's identity.
This trail is also included in the
Bocage and Rio Jardim Loop (Sapatrilhas), an 8.4 km circular route created by the Sapatrilhas team. This alternative combines the Bocage Trail with the
PR2 ETR - Rio Jardim Trail and other sections of the local network, allowing walkers to cover a wider area.
