PR4 TND - Rota dos Caleiros
In the middle of Natures granite and Mans granite
The PR4 TND - Caleiros Route is a circular trail that crosses the mountain landscapes of the Serra do Caramulo, combining wide panoramic views, rural heritage and ancient traditional paths. The route develops through high-altitude areas marked by granite outcrops, pasturelands and mountain villages built in granite.
Along the trail, large granite boulders scattered across the mountain stand out, many of them shaped into unusual forms by natural erosion. The route passes through the village of Jueus, associated with the historical presence of Jewish communities, and the village of Pedrógão, where the well-known Penedo do Equilíbrio can be found, a rock formation marked by the balance between massive granite blocks.
One of the most characteristic elements of the trail is a section of ancient medieval stone pavement, partially bordered by granite water channels once used to supply and distribute water to local populations. The surrounding landscape combines historical heritage, mountain scenery and high-altitude areas marked by low vegetation, pasturelands and wind turbines distributed along the mountain range.
