PR5 CVD - Percurso das Fontes na Vila
This trail highlights the strong connection between Castelo de Vide and its water heritage, passing through some of the most characteristic fountains of the town and its surroundings. Between monumental fountains, old water supply structures, washing areas and places linked to agricultural use, the route reveals how water shaped daily life and the organisation of the landscape over the centuries.
Throughout the walk, the urban atmosphere of Castelo de Vide blends with quieter peri-urban areas, where small farms, walled paths, old stone pavements and the São João stream create a varied and scenic landscape. The trail also passes through historic corners of the town, including the walled centre, the former Jewish quarter and traditional streets where the presence of water remains deeply connected to local identity.
The natural surroundings further enrich the experience, with birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles, mosses, lichens and native vegetation associated with the fountains, dry stone walls and waterways. It is an especially interesting trail for discovering the hydraulic, natural and urban heritage of Castelo de Vide.
