PR5 ETR - Percurso das Ribeiras de Veiros
The PR5 ETR - Veiros Streams Trail is a linear route in the municipality of Estarreja, starting at Ribeira Nova and ending at the Esteiro de Estarreja. Over approximately 7.5 km, it follows the network of streams, channels, ditches and tidal creeks that shape this area of the Ria de Aveiro.
The route passes through the streams of Nova, Veiros, Moitela, Tralhinha and Moita, crossing a landscape strongly linked to water and wetland environments. Among salt marshes, rush beds, reed beds, agricultural fields and small woodland areas near the old salt pans, the trail allows walkers to observe the diversity of habitats associated with the lagoon system.
The presence of the streams and tidal creeks helps explain the historical relationship between Veiros, agriculture, salt pans and the Ria de Aveiro. The route ends at the Esteiro de Estarreja, a place of historical importance for having been, in the last century, the second largest salt harbour of the Ria de Aveiro.
With its moderate length and accessible profile, this trail allows visitors to discover an area of significant natural and cultural interest, where the riverside landscape, agricultural fields and memory linked to salt come together in a territory shaped by water.
