The PR6 SVV - Amiais Trail (Trilho dos Amiais) follows old paths in the parish of Couto de Esteves, passing through Couto de Baixo and the village of Amiais. The route crosses rural areas marked by agricultural terraces, waterlines, small woodland areas and elements linked to the community life of these villages.
In Couto de Baixo, Casa da Fonte stands out as a manor house built between the 16th and 17th centuries and associated with the Sequeira e Quadros family. The coat of arms above the main door is one of the features that reflects the historical importance of this house in the area.
Part of the route follows old paths that once connected the villages to the parish centre, used in the past for everyday journeys, religious pilgrimages and funeral processions. Along the way, the population’s connection to agriculture is also visible, from the cultivation of maize and vegetables to the more recent presence of soft fruit, especially blueberries.
Along the waterlines that cross the hillside, there are remains of watermills associated with the former milling of cereals. Granaries, either isolated or grouped near communal threshing floors, continue to mark the rural landscape, with particular emphasis on the Eira Comunitária da Aldeia dos Amiais.
