PR7 - Nas Escarpas da Mizarela

The PR7 ARC - In the Cliffs of Mizarela is a circular trail located in the Serra da Freita, within the territory of the Arouca Geopark. The route crosses mountain slopes, oak forests, woodland areas and deep valleys associated with the Caima River, providing contact with some of the most emblematic landscapes of this mountainous region. One of the main highlights of the trail is the Frecha da Mizarela, one of the largest waterfalls in Portugal, formed by the waters of the Castanheira stream before flowing into the Caima valley. Along the route, several panoramic viewpoints overlook the granite cliffs of the mountain range and the region''s deep valleys. The trail passes through the village of Ribeira, a small rural settlement where terraced agricultural fields and elements of traditional mountain architecture remain. Near the Caima River, it is possible to observe old watermills powered by flowing water, testimonies to the traditional use of water resources by local communities. The surrounding landscape combines mountain paths, forest areas, watercourses and steep slopes, providing a walk marked by granite scenery, the constant presence of water and the strong connection between the natural and human heritage of the Serra da Freita.
