PR7 FND - Rota da Cereja
Through the seasonal landscape of the Gardunha cherry orchards
The PR7 FND - Cherry Route is a circular trail starting in Alcongosta, on the northern slope of the Serra da Gardunha, in the municipality of Fundão. The route is centred around the cherry, a fruit deeply connected to the local agricultural landscape, crossing orchards, rural paths and mid-slope areas surrounded by mountain vegetation.
The landscape changes noticeably throughout the seasons. In spring, cherry blossom covers the slope in white; in summer, the red fruit stands out among the green foliage; in autumn, the orchards take on ochre, yellow and orange tones; and in winter, the bare trunks, humidity and rocky outcrops reveal a quieter, more mineral landscape.
Beyond the cherry orchards, the trail brings walkers closer to the rhythms of agricultural work, the shade of the orchards and the patches of natural vegetation surrounding Alcongosta. The presence of watercourses, springs and rocks reinforces the connection between the mountain, water and the cyclical renewal of Gardunha's agricultural landscape.
