Rota das Adelfeiras
The Adelfeiras Route is a small circular trail, marked and about 1.5 km long, located in the Monchique Mountains, in Faro. This trail's main attraction is the observation of an adelfeiral, a rare habitat of high conservation value dominated by the Rhododendron ponticum subsp. baeticum.
The adelfeiral is a very particular ecosystem that shelters relic species of Laurissilva, a type of humid subtropical forest that once dominated the Mediterranean region. This habitat is specially protected and preserved in the Monchique Mountains thanks to the microclimatic conditions of the region, which allow these species to survive at higher altitudes.
Along the Adelfeiras Route, it is possible to marvel at the great diversity of floristic species that make up this unique ecosystem. Among them, the presence of holly trees, cork oaks, arbutus trees, and the rare species of white rockrose stand out. To enrich visitors' experience even more, there are several marked points of interest along the trail, where it is possible to access an audio guide to interpret the vegetation and landscape.
In addition to the richness of the flora, the Adelfeiras Route also provides panoramic views of the Monchique Mountains and the surrounding region. The trail has an accumulated slope of 70 m, making it accessible to people of all ages and physical conditions.
In summary, the Adelfeiras Route is a short thematic trail that offers the opportunity to get to know and appreciate a rare and valuable ecosystem, the diversity of local flora, and the natural beauty of the Monchique Mountains. If you are looking for a peaceful and enriching walk, don't miss the chance to visit this route and enjoy all its natural beauty.
