The Lezírias Route is a circular trail that runs between Benavente and Samora Correia, in an area shaped by the Sorraia and Almansor rivers, irrigation channels and the agricultural floodplains that characterise this landscape.
Along the route, the landscape alternates between rural areas, rice fields, embankments, waterside paths, scattered cork oak woodland and sections close to agricultural fields. Water accompanies much of the walk, both through the rivers and the Vale do Sorraia irrigation canal, an essential element in the landscape and local agricultural activity.
The trail allows walkers to experience the rural identity of this territory, where agriculture, cattle and the Lusitano horse are part of the landscape. In several places, it is also possible to observe birds associated with open fields and wetlands, such as the grey heron, white stork and common kestrel.
The route can start in Benavente or Samora Correia and includes the PR1.1 variant, which allows shorter circuits to be completed.
In Benavente, the trail passes through the surroundings of the historic centre, where the Town Hall, the pillory and the Calvário Cross stand out, all classified as heritage of public interest.
